FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below, we’ve included some questions and answers which you may find useful when planning your event and marquee hire with Really Good Marquees.
If your question is not answered below, please feel free to contact us.

How much does it cost to hire a Marquee?

Our prices are advertised on our Marquee Hire Rates page, so it’s easy to know the cost. However, the best way to get an accurate price for what you require, including your delivery charge, is to complete our Booking Enquiry Form.

What area’s do you cover?

We’re based in Plymouth (Devon), and offer our marquee hire in Devon and Cornwall, as well as some parts of Somerset and Dorset.

Access to the Marquee site is restricted is that a problem?

It shouldn’t be, as we can access most areas without a problem. The marquees which we supply are highly portable. If, however, your site is very tricky to access, or more than 25m away from our point of access, then an additional charge will be applicable. If a site visit is required, then we can usually accommodate one – just ask.

How much space will I need?

It all depends on the number of guests, the need for a dance floor, bar or band and the space you have available. We are happy to make suggestions, or if needed, visit the site to make sure you get what you need for your event.

What surface is suitable for Marquees?

Capri Marquees are only suitable for Grass. Our Matrix & Hex Marquees can be put up on hard standing ground, but will require water weights if the ground cannot be drilled. An extra charge is made for water weights.

When can I expect delivery?

For Saturday events, delivery is usually on a Thursday or Friday AM, with removal on a Monday or Tuesday AM (You will only be charged for a single day hire). However, for a small fee, arrangements can be made for an earlier delivery and/or pick up time. For the more remote parts of Devon or Cornwall, we may be slightly delayed in arrival.

How long will it take to set up a marquee?

Set up time will depend on the volume of items hired. As a guide, our smallest structure on its own will take approximately 30 minutes to erect, whereas a full marquee set up for 200 people will take a full day. On average, most events take about 5 hours to set up.

Do you give discounts?

We offer small discounts to charities and schools in Devon and Cornwall. Please contact us for more information.

Are your marquees lined?

Due to their modern design, our marquees do not need to be lined. However, you can decorate as you see fit. We have seen some fantastic interiors over the years. Feel free to have a look at the images in our Marquee Gallery for a better idea of the style of our marquees and some decoration ideas.

What if the weather is very poor?

Unfortunately, the weather is out of our control. All of our marquees are waterproof, as are the sidewalls. In heavy rain, matting may get wet, but it does dry quickly on well-drained grass surfaces.

Very high winds can be an issue (particularly on the exposed coasts of Devon and Cornwall), and while we keep an eye on the forecast and take all necessary measures to ensure our marquees are safe, we cannot guarantee this in very high winds.

If you are unsure about your location, or if it’s exposed to the elements, then we recommend that you opt for a Matrix Marquee rather than a Capri Marquee, as they are more robust.

Do I need matting?

It depends on your event. For weddings, we suggest you opt for matting as it looks much better – also high heels on grass can be awkward. If you are having a dance floor, you must have matting. For catering tents, we suggest you do not have matting, unless your caterers require it.

Should I cut the grass?

We would suggest you do, but only if you can collect the grass. Avoid cutting the grass close to the day of the event, particularly if you are not opting for matting, as the grass likes to stick to the surface of the marquee.

Do you provide sidewalls?

Yes, a complete set of sidewalls (half white and half clear) are provided with every marquee.

Can I decorate the marquees?

Yes. The poles and archways in the Capri Marquees and the wires and poles in the Matrix & Hex Marquees provide ideal points for attaching decorations. However, we ask that you refrain from fixing anything to the marquees themselves, or to the sidewall material.

How are they linked?

Our marquees can be linked using specially designed linking kits, which are available to hire. They are waterproof and will give some extra space to the marquee interior.

Do you hire linen, cutlery, generators or toilets?

Unfortunately, we don’t. However, our event hire and wedding planning links page contains a list of useful contacts to help you plan your event.
